I’m Louise and it’s lovely to meet you. I am passionate about being creative, enjoying and taking pride in everything I do – whether it is a watercolour painting, writing beautiful words in calligraphy, designing a brand identity or creating bespoke pattern designs. Whatever your project, event, wedding, photoshoot or creative thoughts. I can work with you to make your vision come to life. I have a wealth of knowledge and resources to support you throughout your time working with me.
When not in my studio, you will find me at the seaside, foraging for plants for natural dyes for silk ribbons or spending time with my lovely daughters and family. I also love to search for beautiful antiques and unique pieces for styling.
EXPERIENCE:
I originally trained in media with a B.A. Hons and have worked for over 15 years in the digital realm as a web / graphic designer. I have been training both professionally and self taught in modern calligraphy, I am constantly developing and learning and love to add to my existing skill set. I am fluent in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and have recently learnt how to create my own fonts using Glyphs.
MY PHILOSOPHY
I believe that there is beauty and design in everything; the way the morning light can highlight tones and colours of a flower or fruits sitting in a bowl. I love to absorb historical design and architecture, many of my designs and work reflect this. I have a passion for typography and design and my work as a calligrapher has led me to even creating my own script font. It’s a joy to spend my days being creative and I adore the prospect of a new project or working on art to share.
DESIGN PROCESS:
Each project begins with a questionnaire or conversation to get started. I will then send you a detailed proposal for you to add your feedback and approval. As soon as the project is agreed I will give you a proposed timescale so that you are aware of the processes involved. I work organically and love to sketch and create designs that are original and bespoke to you. If you are ordering one of my semi-custom suites then we will agree any extra variations or colours. Depending on your project I will send sketches of my initial designs before they are inked and either digitised to be ready for print or sent to you as a final piece. I am always happy to respond to your requirements and love to collaborate to incorporate any ideas you may have.
LIFE & LOVES:
This is the fun part – I currently live in Devon and adore going to the seaside or just to be near the water. My star sign is Pisces and any time spent near the sea makes me happy. I have two fabulous daughters who inspire me to be the best person I can every day.
I love dancing, music, eating gorgeous food and photography. I see beauty in the simple things – a breeze that lifts the soul or the smell of freshly cooked bread. I take inspiration from everything around me and spend far too much time on Instagram!
I believe in kindred spirits (that’s Anne of Green Gables for you!), being kind, helping and looking after each other. Taking time to spend with family and friends and most of all taking pride in everything I do – even if it’s just cleaning the bathroom! I think that many things can be solved by putting music on, laughter and if all else fails dancing around to calm your nerves or de-stress, honestly try it – it works for me and my family!
